This red grape variety is most popular in the area around Narta in the south west of Albania (Fier, Vlore, Delvine, Himare etc). Synonyms are Vlesh, Vloshi and Vlosk. The late-ripening vine yields high-alcohol, tannin-rich red wines that are often aged oxidatively in the rancio style. It is also used as table grape. The variety is grown in the area around the coastal town of Narta in the southwest of the country.
