Public transport

Public transport in Albania is mainly characterized by the use of furgons, the equivalent of minibuses, vans or shuttles identifiable by yellow plates. Those who prefer independence and flexibility can easily move around the country using the accessible and affordable public bus transport system.

The bus/minivan network connects the Mother Teresa International airport to various destinations across the country, offering a convenient and cheap transport option. The driver picks up and drops off people along the way. You can get off anywhere you want and get on whenever you hail the driver. More information on the bus destinations and schedule here.

The main cities have also their own public transport networks, using mainly buses. You can find the timetables.

The iBUS Albania app available for downloadn in iOS and Androd shows the main realtime timetable for public transport in some of the major cities.

Travelling by bus is also a frequent and inexpensive way of getting into Albania, especially from the neighboring countries, Sofia (Bulgaria) and Istanbul (Turkey). The prices range from 10€ to 35€ for a one-way ticket, depending on your starting point. More information here.

Taxis

Taxis offer a convenient and flexible way travel to and from the airport. There are fixed fares for different cities. Taxis are located just outside the arrivals hall. The payment is mostly done cash, with Albanian Lek or Euros. Transfer time to Tirana centre is 30 minutes on average.
