The Kanun of Lekë Dukagjini is the most famous and comprehensive compilation of Albanian customary law dating from the Middle Ages. For centuries it strictly governed social behavior and everyday life among Albanians in different historical periods.
The practice of the oral laws codified in the Kanun was suggested by Edith Durham as dating back to the Bronze Age. Hospitality and honour are two of the main pillars of the Kanun.
