Although still in its infancy, in recent years hiking and trekking have gained in popularity, and a real infrastructure is developing alongside the generalization of hiking maps and trail markings, and the emergence of supra-regional and transnational mountain trails. Albania boasts several ancient routes that are ideal for hiking and trekking, including the ancient Via Egnatia linking the port city of Durrës with Istanbul, or Caesar's Way in Llogara National Park.
We recommend that hikers contact an experienced mountain guide or join one of the many organized tours in the country.
